About Us
CineMechanics is a premier digital cinema and video production camera rental house founded in 2008 with offices in Minneapolis, Duluth, and the famous MN Iron Range. Our mission is to work alongside professional filmmakers to help them make great films by providing the industry's finest equipment and support they need to succeed. From features and episodics to commercials, brand videos, or documentaries – we understand the demands of today's filmmakers and productions of all scales.
We work closely with cinematographers and producers to find the most cost-effective means to produce the highest quality images and tailor this to their production needs. Locally owned and based in Minneapolis we sub-rent to a network of rental house partners in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Toronto, Miami, Baltimore, Austin, San Francisco, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and beyond.
We are dedicated to the camera department. Camera is our roots and we actively share our expertise and experience with a close-knit community of camera assistants, operators, and DPs. We specialize in the same high-end industry standard cameras, specialty lenses, and support video production equipment provided by the best rental houses in the country at the most competitive prices along with personal, comprehensive support before, during, and after your shoot.

Steve Speers
CineMechanics Founder
Steve Speers, founder of CineMechanics and a Minneapolis-based Cinematographer and Camera Operator with over 20 years in the industry. Steve brings unparalleled expertise to CineMechanics from working on over 25 feature films (Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums, Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion, Coen Brothers' Fargo, Richard Linklater’s Bernie, Sam Rami's A Simple Plan, Noah Bombach's The Squid and the Whale, Molly's Game, Men in Black 2, Thin Ice) as well as hundreds of commercials, music videos, and documentaries.
In his career he has be fortunate to have learned the craft by working with some of the industry's most acclaimed cinematographers as their camera assistant, focus-puller, and camera operator.
Steve is an active member of the Minnesota film community and shares his knowledge through workshops and equipment expos.
Along the way, Steve somehow ending up spending the night in the “Frank Zappa room” at Billy Bob Thornton’s Beverly Hills home, as well as sharing popcorn with Prince while watching a Vin Diesel action movie in Panama.
